Equipment/Device: a tape device where tapes are ejected on the certain days

Policy: new data stream (media set) must be started every Monday; job settings must ensure that tape will be ejected the day before (not to be accidentally overwritten)

Automation: Best practices for tape libraries recommend that tape should be ejected from the drive and placed into slot; if you have a stand-alone drive, the Eject media once the job finishes option will indicate job completion.

Then you can set up recording of tape archives with the following settings:

Retention for media pools: Protect data for [period_after_which_tape_is_ejected] (e.g., for 6 days)

Retention for media set: Automatically create new media set daily on [day], e.g. Monday

Job options: Select the Eject media once the job finishes option and Schedule export to the day before new media set creation (e.g. Sunday).

This scenario can be of use for mid-size organizations; sample workflow may include:

1.Daily reverse incremental backup to disk

2.Weekly backup to tape (Protect data for 14-30 days option for media pool should be used)
