One of the typical scenarios for creating offsite backups includes configuring remote repositories and running backups directly across WAN. This workflow, however, could be affected by job failure or limited network bandwidth. Veeam Backup & Replication 7.0 provides the native capability to duplicate local backups to an offsite location using Backup Copy jobs.
This capability is very granular; it allows for remote retention to be different from local retention (including GFS). It also includes features for verifying remote backup integrity. Backup Copy Jobs are very robust against communication failures — Veeam supports the ability to resume failed jobs where they left off. Throttling and blackout rules can be applied to keep WAN resources free during business hours.
Bandwidth is often limited (cost and/or availability), so there is also the option of using built-in WAN Acceleration (requires Enterprise Plus license) to significantly reduce network traffic. This feature can bring backups offsite 50x times faster than general-purpose accelerators, with up to 90% less cost, storage and other hardware.
