Consider deploying Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager if your organization's DR needs include any of the following (these tasks can be performed via Enterprise Manager only):

Centralized control over distributed backup infrastructure (several Veeam Backup & Replication instances installed on different servers), including license management, ongoing reporting, job management.

Delegation of restore capabilities to authorized users, allowing them to recover files and virtual machines from a web-based console with a single click.

Handling the requests of U-AIR users to restore application items with the appropriate SureBackup jobs, application groups and virtual labs.

Setting up vSphere web client plug in to provide vSphere administrators with a single point of control over virtual environment and backup infrastructure.

Before you start installing Enterprise Manager, either to a physical or virtual server, make sure it meets system requirements, accounts you plan to use have sufficient permissions, and all the necessary ports are open. For details, please refer to Enterprise Manager User Guide.

Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager stores its configuration in a Microsoft SQL server database named VeeamBackupReporting. You can create it on the SQL server hosting Veeam Backup & Replication database; it is also possible to use a standalone SQL server. The SQL Server 2008 R2 Express edition (included in the setup) is sufficient for most environments.

The account used to run Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager service must have database owner rights for this database on the SQL Server instance.

Enterprise Manager is a part of Veeam Backup & Replication downloaded setup; it does not require any additional license. However, small-size organizations may not need to install this component. If so, then, for example, to handle lab requests, you can use Veeam Backup & Replication console: right-click any VM in the running SureBackup job session, and start application-item recovery procedure immediately (make sure U-AIR wizards are installed on your Veeam Backup server).

If you are not using Enterprise Manager for search and recovery purposes, guest OS indexing can be disabled in the backup jobs.
