Specify Backup Storage Settings > Veeam Backup Repository Settings" dateModified: "2026-11-03" --- # Veeam Backup Repository Settings If you have selected to store backup files in a Veeam Backup & Replication repository, specify settings to connect to the backup repository: 1. [Specify backup server settings](#vbr). 2. [Select backup repository](#repo). ## Specifying Backup Server Settings {#vbr} The **Veeam** step of the wizard is available if you have chosen to store backup files in a Veeam Backup & Replication repository. Specify settings for the Veeam backup server that manages the target backup repository: 1. In the **Address** field, specify the DNS name or IP address of the Veeam backup server. 2. In the **Port** field, specify the number of the port over which Veeam Agent must communicate with the backup repository. By default, Veeam Agent uses port 10006. 3. In the **Login** field, type in the user name of the account that has access to the Veeam backup repository. 4. In the **Domain** field, type in the name of the domain in which the account that has access to the Veeam backup repository is registered, for example: *DOMAIN*. ::: important To authenticate to a Linux-based Veeam backup server (Veeam Software Appliance), you must use a local user account. We recommend specifying credentials for a local user account with the *Service Account* role. To learn more about available local user roles, see the [Configuring Users](https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbr/userguide/hmc_configure_users.html?ver=13) section in the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide. You cannot use domain accounts because Kerberos authentication is not supported in Veeam Agent for IBM AIX, and Veeam Software Appliance does not support NTLM authentication. ::: 5. In the **Password** field, type in the password of the account that has access to the Veeam backup repository. Permissions on the backup repository managed by the target Veeam backup server must be granted beforehand. To learn more, see [Setting Up User Permissions on Backup Repositories](integrate_permissions.md). ![](images/backup_job_vbr_server_aix.png) ## Selecting Backup Repository {#repo} The **Repository** step of the wizard is available if you have chosen to save backup files in a Veeam Backup & Replication repository. Specify settings for the target backup repository: 1. From the list of available backup repositories, select a backup repository where you want to store backups. The list of backup repositories displays only those repositories on which you have permissions to store data. To learn more, see [Setting Up User Permissions on Backup Repositories](integrate_permissions.md). 2. To use the GFS (Grandfather-Father-Son) retention scheme, select the **Keep full backups for archival purposes** check box and select **Configure**. In the **Configure GFS** window, specify how weekly, monthly and yearly full backups must be retained. To learn more, see [Specify GFS Retention Settings](backup_job_gfs_settings.md). 3. In the **Retention policy** field, specify the number of days for which you want to store backup files in the target location. After this period is over, Veeam Agent will remove from the backup chain any restore points that are older than the specified retention period. By default, Veeam Agent keeps backup files for 7 days. The maximum retention period is limited to 9999 days. To learn more, see [Short-Term Retention Policy](retention.md). 4. Select **Advanced** to specify advanced settings for the backup job. To learn more, see [Specify Advanced Backup Settings](backup_job_advanced.md). ![](images/backup_job_vbr_repo_aix.png)
