Step 3.1. Create Backup Location
In this article
In terms of Veeam Agent for IBM AIX, when you specify backup location settings, you create a backup location.
To create a backup location:
- In the Veeam backup console menu, select Backup.
- In the Backup menu, select Set backup location.
- In the Backup locations menu, select Create new backup location.
- In the Backup location type menu, select File backup location.
- In the Create file backup location form, specify settings for the backup location and select OK.
- In the Name field, specify a name for the backup location.
- In the Path field, specify a full path to the backup location:
- For a full backup, a backup location is a file that in the VTD (Virtual Tape Drive) format located in an NFS directory mounted to the file system of your machine. If you want to create a full backup, in the Path field, specify a full path to the VTD file that will contain the backed-up data. For example: /mnt/veeam/backup/aix/full/machine.vtd.
- For incremental backups, a backup location is an NFS directory mounted to the file system of your machine that contains a chain of incremental backup files. If you want to create incremental backups, in the Path field, specify a path to the necessary directory. For example: /mnt/veeam/backup/aix/incremental.
- In the SizeInMB field, specify the size of the backup location:
- For a full backup, the size of the backup location is the maximum size of the full backup file. If you specify a backup location for a full backup, it is recommended that you leave the SizeInMB field blank or set the size to zero. This will allow Veeam Agent for IBM AIX to expand the backup file until the backup process completes or until the location where the backup file is created runs out of space.
- For an incremental backup, you do not need to specify the size of the backup location. If you specify a backup location for incremental backup files, leave the SizeInMB field blank.
Tip: |
You can edit settings of a backup location that you created or delete a backup location that you do not want to use as a target for backup files any longer. When you delete a backup location, Veeam Agent for IBM AIX deletes the record about this location from the /etc/veeam/devices.ini configuration file. Backup files created with Veeam Agent for IBM AIX in the deleted location remain intact.
