Veeam Cloud Connect Guide

Licensing for Service Providers

To enable the Veeam Cloud Connect functionality, the SP must install the Veeam Cloud Connect service provider license on the SP backup server. For SPs, the cloud connect functionality is licensed per VM. The SP must obtain a license for the total number of VMs that all tenants working with this SP plan to back up and/or replicate.

The Veeam Cloud Connect service provider license is intended for the SP backup server only. The SP must not install this license on tenants' backup servers.

Veeam Cloud Connect Scenarios

SPs may provide Repository as a Service (Veeam Cloud Connect Backup) and Disaster Recovery as a Service (Veeam Cloud Connect Replication) to tenants that have Veeam Backup & Replication deployed and want to back up, copy and/or replicate VMs to the cloud. In this case, Veeam backup servers on the tenant side may have any type of paid license installed. To learn more, see the Types of Licenses section in Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide at: https://www.veeam.com/documentation-guides-datasheets.html.

Licensing for Service Providers

Licensing for Service Providers Note:

Mind the following:

  • In addition to keeping backups of tenant VMs, SPs can expose cloud repositories for Veeam Agent backups created by tenants. The SP should obtain a license for the total number of servers and/or workstations that all tenants working with this SP plan to back up with Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows and/or Veeam Agent for Linux. To learn more, see Support for Veeam Agents.
  • Starting from Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 3, if a tenant uses a rental license and creates backups of virtual and/or physical machines in a cloud repository, Veeam Backup & Replication tracks those machines in the tenant license, and not in the SP license. To learn more, see Rental Machines Licensing.

Backup as a Service Scenario

SPs may also provide Backup as a Service to tenants that want to back up VM data and do not intend to manage Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure on their own account. In this case, the SP deploys Veeam Backup & Replication on the tenant side, configures and manages backup and replication jobs and charges tenants for processing tenants' VMs. On the tenants' Veeam backup servers, the SP must install a Hosting license for the total number of VMs that tenants plan to back up, copy or replicate.
