The following steps describe the overall process when recovering Active Directory objects using Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory:
- Using Veeam Backup & Replication restore capabilities, an Active Directory database is extracted from the image-level VM backup or from a VeeamZIP file. The file system of the backed up VM is then mounted to the local mount server. For details, see Obtaining Database File from VM Backup.
- An extracted database is added to the Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory scope. A database hierarchy with the corresponding content will be displayed in the Veeam Explorer window. For details, see Adding Database to Veeam Explorer Scope.
- Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory is used to find necessary objects or containers, export them as an .LDF file, or restore to the original or a different server.
For item recovery Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory requires full access to the Active Directory database files. See the Required Permissions section.
