Backup Repositories

In this article

A backup repository is a storage location where Veeam Backup & Replication keeps backup files, VM copies and metadata for replicated VMs. For the full list of supported repositories, see the Backup Repository section of the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide.

Depending on the number of nodes, the Nutanix Mine cluster contains 3 or 6 Linux VMs that function as backup repositories:

    • If less than 8 nodes: the Nutanix Mine cluster contains 3 Linux VMs that function as backup repositories.
    • If more than 8 nodes: the Nutanix Mine cluster contains 6 Linux VMs that function as backup repositories.

All default backup repositories on the Nutanix Mine cluster are combined into a single scale-out repository. A scale-out backup repository is a repository system with horizontal scaling support for multi-tier storage of data. The scale-out backup repository consists of one or more backup repositories called performance tier, and can be expanded with object storage repositories for long-term and archive storage: capacity tier and archive tier. All the storage devices and systems inside the scale-out backup repository are joined into a system, with their capacities summarized.

You can add repositories of Nutanix Mine cluster to any Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure and use them as a scale-out backup repository. Also, you can add other backup repositories to the Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure and share their storage disk resources within the scale-out repository.

For instructions on how to add additional repositories, see the Adding Backup Repositories section of the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide.
