Simple Retention Policy

A simple retention policy scheme is intended for short-time archiving. When you specify retention policy settings for a simple scheme, you define how many restore points you want to retain in the target backup repository.

With the simple retention policy scheme, Veeam Backup & Replication creates a forever forward incremental chain. In this chain, restore points subsequently follow one another. The first restore point in the chain is always a full backup (also known as a recent full backup). All other restore points in the chain are incremental backups.

By default, Veeam Backup & Replication keeps 7 restore points in the target backup repository.

Simple Retention Policy Note:

The minimum number of restore points that you can keep with the simple retention policy scheme is 2.

Simple Retention Policy

To maintain the desired number of restore points in the backup chain, Veeam Backup & Replication uses the forever forward incremental scheme. For details on how the forever forward incremental retention policy works, see Forever Forward Incremental Backup Retention Policy.
