The Collector agentlessly gathers data from VMware systems, and re-publishes the data to OpsMgr. Before you install the Collector, make sure the machine where the Collector component will be deployed meets the following system requirements:

Specification

Requirement

Hardware

Processor: 4 x 2 GHz minimum.

Memory: 4 GB RAM minimum. For maximum scalability and performance, x64 OS with 6 GB RAM is recommended.

Hard disk space: 2 GB minimum — required for .NET Framework installation, binaries and log files.

OS

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2025
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2022
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2019

Notes:

  • Semi-Annual Channel (SAC) releases are supported.
  • All current operating system security updates and patches must be installed.
::: note 1. One Collector server can process data for 500–1000 virtual machines. If you need to monitor larger VMware environments, first check scalability considerations provided in section [Determining Number of Collectors Required](determining_number_of_collectors_required.md). 2. To achieve best performance and scalability, install the Collector component on an OpsMgr Management Server. :::
