Right-sizing – VMs Oversized for Memory and CPU This report is designed to find virtual machines that have more RAM or CPU resources than they need. Analysis of historical performance data versus configured allocation is used to build a detailed report, with recommendations for a more optimized configuration. ## Example Output In this example, the report allows you to detect top 10 VMs that have more allocated memory and CPU resources than they require. Performance statistics for the last month were used as a basis for the report analysis. To run this report: 1. From the **From** list, select *This month* > *First day*. From the **To** list, select *Today*. 2. From the **Sections to Show** list, select both *vRAM* and *vCPU*. 3. From the **Show Details** list, select *Yes (collapsed)*. 4. From the **Performance Modeling Based On** list, select *Average Usage*. 5. In the **Top N Count** field, enter *10*. 6. Click **Run** to view the report. The report contains two sections: - Virtual machines that have too many vCPUs allocated [![Right-sizing – VMs Oversized for Memory and CPU Report Output for RAM](images/oversized_vms_cpu.png "Right-sizing – VMs Oversized for Memory and CPU Report Output for RAM")](images/oversized_vms_cpu.png){.toggle scale=63} - Virtual machines that have too much RAM allocated [![Right-sizing – VMs Oversized for Memory and CPU Report Output for vCPU](images/oversized_vms_ram.png "Right-sizing – VMs Oversized for Memory and CPU Report Output for vCPU")](images/oversized_vms_ram.png){.toggle scale=63} You can click the plus sign next to any virtual machine name in the table to view details for that virtual machine. [![Right-sizing – VMs Oversized for Memory and CPU Report Output Details](images/oversized_vms_chart.png "Right-sizing – VMs Oversized for Memory and CPU Report Output Details")](images/oversized_vms_chart.png){.toggle scale=64} The **Recommendations** analysis sections for both vCPU and vRAM will summarize the total savings possible by reclaiming the resources found by the report. ::: note All recommendations are based on the current configuration. So, if a virtual machine has no current configuration (is turned off or decommissioned), it will not be included in the report. ::: RAM Analysis recommendation table: [![RAM Analysis](images/ram_recommendations.png "RAM Analysis")](images/ram_recommendations.png){.toggle scale=63} CPU Analysis recommendation table: [![CPU Analysis](images/cpu_recommendations.png "CPU Analysis")](images/cpu_recommendations.png){.toggle scale=63} You can click the name of an oversized VM or the *Oversized VMs* link in the **RAM analysis** and **CPU analysis** tables to drill down to performance details for these VMs. You can also scroll down to see performance details for the VMs that cannot be analyzed.
