Performing Initial Categorization with Tags

If you have vCenter Server tags assigned to virtual infrastructure objects, you can use these tags to perform initial object categorization in Veeam ONE Business View. You can map tag categories to Veeam ONE Business View categories, and map tags to groups within these categories. After you do the mapping, tagged virtual infrastructure objects will be automatically placed to corresponding groups in Veeam ONE Business View.

To map tags to Veeam ONE Business View groups:

  1. Launch the Group import wizard.
  2. Map tag categories to Veeam ONE Business View categories.
  3. Map tags to groups.
  4. Finish working with the wizard.

Step 1. Launch the Group Import Wizard

To launch the Group import Wizard:

  1. Open Veeam ONE Business View.
  2. Open the Configuration tab.
  3. In the menu on the left, click Import/Export.
  4. In the Map tags from VI Management Server section, click Run Wizard.

Step 2. Map Tag Categories

The Assign Mapping step of the wizard displays a list of categories on the vCenter Server and Veeam ONE Business View sides. The Tag Category column on the left displays a list of tag categories discovered on the vCenter Server side. The Category column on the right displays a list of categories with static groups configured in Veeam ONE Business View.

To map tag categories to Veeam ONE Business View categories, for each tag category on the left choose a corresponding business category on the right.

Veeam ONE Business View tries to do the mapping for you based on the Tag category to use value of business categories. For example, if you have previously created a Department category and set its Tag category to use value to 'dpt', Veeam ONE Business View will map this category to the 'dpt' tag category on the vCenter Server side, if this category exists.

If you do not want to import specific tag categories, leave them without matching business categories.

Step 3. Review Tag Values

After you map tag categories to business categories, the wizard will display discovered tags so that you can review and map them to business groups. Tags are displayed in turn: one group of tags per wizard step.

The left column shows tags discovered on the vCenter Server side. Veeam ONE Business View tries to map these tags to groups within the parent category based on the Tag value assigned to a group. For example, if you have previously created a Marketing group within a Department category, and set its Tag value to 'mrk', Veeam ONE Business View will map the Marketing group to the 'mrk' tag on the vCenter Server side, if this tag exists. Check the list of collected tags: the 'imported' label means that a group with a corresponding tag value had been found in Veeam ONE Business View.

If in Veeam ONE Business View there are no groups corresponding to tags (or Veeam ONE Business View could not detect these groups), you can map tags to groups manually:

  1. In the Collected tags list, click a tag name.
  2. In the Friendly name field, specify the name of a Veeam ONE Business View group.

If a group with this name does not exist, it will be created within the necessary category after you finish working with the wizard.

  1. In the Description field, specify a group description.

You can later change the name and description of the mapped groups. For details, see Creating Groups.

Step 4. Finish Working with the Wizard

After you finish mapping, click Finish.

Veeam ONE Business View will place tagged virtual infrastructure objects to groups that you mapped to tags.
