The most common prefix in technical documentation is **re-**. The prefix **re-** is added to verbs to indicate the repetition of an action or process, to refer to an action or process that is opposite to the one already mentioned, and to express a change in the position or state of something. Use a hyphen with the prefix **re-** only if both the following conditions are met at the same time: - You want to indicate the repetition of an action or process. - Omitting the hyphen causes confusion because the word acquires another meaning. Also, use a hyphen with a prefix if the prefix ends in the same letter that the root word starts with. ### Examples 1.
