Veeam Availability Console 2.0
Administrator Guide for Enterprises

How to Install Security Certificate

When you connect the Veeam Cloud Connect server to Veeam Availability Console, Veeam Availability Console attempts to import from the Veeam Cloud Connect server a security certificate. This certificate is used to establish a secure connection between the Veeam Cloud Connect server, Veeam Availability Console, managed Veeam Backup & Replication servers and computers running Veeam backup agents.

In some situations, Veeam Availability Console may fail to import the certificate from the Veeam Cloud Connect server. In this case, the status of the Veeam Cloud Connect server will be reported as Error. The status details will display the following error: Failed to import security certificate from Veeam Cloud Connect server. Install the security certificate manually to complete the configuration.

To eliminate the error, you must manually export the certificate from the Veeam Cloud Connect server and install it on the machine that runs Veeam Availability Console.

Step 1. Export Veeam Cloud Connect Security Certificate

To export the Veeam Cloud Connect security certificate:

  1. Log on to the Veeam Cloud Connect server as an Administrator.
  2. Open the Certificates snap-in for a computer account.

For more details, see How to: View Certificates with the MMC Snap-in.

  1. In the console tree, under Personal, click Certificates.
  2. In the details pane, click the certificate that you generated or selected when configuring Veeam Cloud Connect.

For details, see Managing TLS Certificates.

If you cannot find the certificate, try to open the Certificates snap-in for another account (for example, user account), or search in another certificate store.

  1. Right-click the certificate, select All Tasks and choose Export.
  2. Follow the steps of the Certificate Export Wizard. At the Export Private Key step, choose to export the private key.

How to Install Security Certificate Note:

If for some reason you cannot export the private key, you must do one of the following:

  • Import an existing security certificate to the Veeam Cloud Connect server anew. In the Certificate Import Wizard, make sure that the Mark key as exportable check box is selected. For details on importing certificates, see Import a Certificate.
  • Obtain a new security certificate with an exportable private key, and install it on the Veeam Cloud Connect server.

Step 2. Import Certificate to Machine That Runs Veeam Availability Console

To import the security certificate to a machine that runs Veeam Availability Console:

  1. Copy the file with the exported certificate to the machine that runs Veeam Availability Console.

In case you deployed Veeam Availability Console using the distributed installation scenario, this must be a machine that hosts the Veeam Availability Console Server component.

  1. Log on to the machine as an Administrator.
  2. Open the Certificates snap-in for a computer account.

For more details, see How to: View Certificates with the MMC Snap-in.

  1. Import the certificate.

For details on importing certificates, see Import a Certificate.
