Deployment

To start working with Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV, you must deploy a Veeam Backup & Replication server, install Veeam AHV Plug-in and configure the backup infrastructure for an AHV cluster that you want to protect.

To deploy Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV and set up the backup infrastructure, perform the following steps:

  1. Configure Veeam Backup & Replication server: install Veeam Backup & Replication and configure the backup repository that will be used as a target for VM backups.
  2. Install Nutanix AHV Plug-in: install Nutanix AHV Plug-in on the Veeam Backup & Replication server.
  3. Perform initial configuration for the cluster that you want to protect:
  1. Add Nutanix AHV cluster.

In the Veeam Backup & Replication console, add Nutanix AHV cluster to the Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure.

  1. Deploy AHV Backup Proxy.

In the Veeam Backup & Replication console, launch the deploy of AHV Backup Proxy on an AHV cluster where VMs that you plan to back up reside.

Important

If the DNS server on the Veeam Backup & Replication server is not configured properly and the deployment finishes with the warning that the proxy hostname is not resolved, see Troubleshooting AHV Backup Proxy Deployment.

After performing these steps, you will have a ready-to-use backup infrastructure that allows you to back up and restore VMs and VGs hosted on the Nutanix AHV cluster.
