Step 6. Assign Name for Restored VM

At the Name step of the wizard, specify a name of restored VMs. We recommend to specify a new name for a VM to prevent conflicts if the original workload still resides in the production environment. The name change is not required if the original workload no longer exists, for example, it was permanently deleted.

To change a VM name, do the following:

  1. In the Virtual machines list, select one or more VMs and click Name.
  2. In the Change Name window, enter a new name explicitly or specify a change name rule by adding a prefix or suffix to the original VM name.

You can also change VM names directly in the list by doing the following:

  1. Select a VM in the list.
  2. Double click the New Name field and enter the name to be assigned to the recovered VM.

If a VM with the specified name already exists in the target AHV cluster, the restored VM will overwrite the existing VM. Thus, the existing VM will be deleted.
