System Requirements

Before you start deploying Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV, make sure the Nutanix AHV cluster and backup infrastructure components meet system requirements listed below.

Platform

AHV Backup Proxy supports the following versions of the Nutanix AOS:

  • Community Edition: CE 2019.11.22 or later.

Important

To integrate the AHV cluster with Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV, you must define an IP address for iSCSI data services in settings of the AHV cluster. For more information, see the Modifying Cluster Details section of the Prism Web Console Guide.

Virtual Hardware for AHV Backup Proxy VM

The AHV Backup Proxy is deployed as an independent Linux-based VM in the Nutanix AHV cluster that you want to protect. The AHV Backup Proxy VM must meet the following requirements.

  • CPU: x86-64 processors. 4 CPU cores plus 1 CPU core for each additional concurrent task.*
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM plus 1 GB RAM for each additional concurrent task.*
  • Disk Space: 1 GB for product installation.

*AHV Backup Proxy creates one task per every VM processed by the job. CPU and hardware resources for the AHV Backup Proxy VM are calculated automatically based on specified number of concurrent tasks. VMs with multiple CPU cores can handle more concurrent tasks. For example, for 4 concurrent tasks, we recommend you to specify minimum 4 CPU cores and 4GB RAM, for 8 concurrent tasks — 8 CPU cores and 8 GB RAM. When defining the number of concurrent tasks, keep in mind the network traffic throughput in the virtual infrastructure.

Important

The AHV Backup Proxy is deployed as a backup infrastructure component preconfigured for optimal performance. That is why you must not install any software on the VM running as the AHV Backup Proxy or make any configuration changes to it unless you are requested by Veeam Customer Support.

Veeam Backup & Replication and Nutanix AHV Plug-in

As described in Backup Infrastructure Components, Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV consists of 3 main components: AHV Backup Proxy, Nutanix AHV Plug-in and Veeam Backup & Replication.

AHV Backup Proxy 3.1.36 supports integration with Nutanix AHV Plug-in 11.1.3.33 installed on the Veeam Backup & Replication 11a (build 11.0.1.1261) server.

Important

The hostname of the Veeam Backup & Replication server must be resolved on the AHV Backup Proxy VM. Otherwise, AHV Backup Proxy cannot connect to Veeam Backup & Replication. The issue is also valid if AHV Backup Proxy is running behind NAT.

For more information, see Solving Hostname Resolution Problem.
