Deployment Guide

Deployment

In most deployment scenarios, VAO server is installed both in the DR and Production sites. The very first VAO server must be installed in the DR site — it will be considered the “master” VAO server. The “master” VAO server is the core of the VAO infrastructure, and all future VAO installations in Production sites will connect to it.

Procedures for installing VAO servers in the DR and Production sites are the same. However, depending on the preferred deployment scenario, you will need to perform a number of configuration steps.

For Scenario 1: Single-Server Installation or Proof of Concept Deployment

  1. Install VAO server including all components.
  2. Complete the Initial Configuration Wizard on the VAO server and register it as the DR site (this Wizard includes connecting to the vCenter Server).

For Scenario 2: One Production Site, One DR Site

  1. Install VAO servers in the DR and Production sites.
  2. Complete the Initial Configuration Wizard on the VAO server in the DR site (this Wizard includes connecting to the vCenter Server).
  3. Assign the Production Site Registration Account role to an account that will be used to register the VAO server in the Production site.
  4. Complete the Initial Configuration Wizard on the VAO server in the Production site (this Wizard includes connecting to the vCenter Server).

For Scenario 3:  Multiple Production Sites, One DR Site

  1. Install VAO servers in the DR and Production sites.
  2. Complete the Initial Configuration Wizard on the VAO server in the DR site (this Wizard includes connecting to the vCenter Server).
  3. Assign the Production Site Registration Account roles to accounts that will be used to register VAO servers in the Production sites.
  4. Complete the Initial Configuration Wizard on VAO servers in Production sites (this Wizard includes connecting to the vCenter Server).

For Scenario 4: Active-Active Protection

  1. Install VAO servers in both DR sites including all components.
  2. Complete the Initial Configuration Wizard on each VAO server and register it as the DR site (this Wizard includes connecting to the vCenter Server).

Deployment Note:

The VAO solution can also be installed in unattended mode. Installation is launched from the command line and performed without any user interaction. For more information, see Installing Veeam Availability Orchestrator in Unattended Mode.

After you perform all the above steps, you will be able to:

  • Configure VAO settings
  • Create and manage failover plans
  • Review dashboards
  • Generate documentation
