System Requirements

Before you start deploying Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV, make sure the Nutanix AHV cluster and the backup infrastructure components meet the following requirements.

Specification

Requirement

Virtualization Platform

  • Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV is compatible with Nutanix AOS versions 5.5.x (and later) and Nutanix AOS Community Edition 2019.11.22 (and later). For Instant Recovery operations, Nutanix AOS version 6.0 and later is required.
  • An IP address of the cluster and the iSCSI Data Service must be configured in Nutanix AHV cluster settings. For more information, see Nutanix documentation.

Veeam Software

  • Veeam Backup & Replication version 12.0.0.1420 (or later) with Nutanix AHV Plug-in version 12.1.4.5 (or later) must be deployed on the backup server.

It is recommended that you use an MS Windows ISO image with the English (United States) system locale while installing the operating system on the backup server. Due to technical limitations, other system locales may be not supported. After MS Windows installation, you can install language packs and change region settings to customize MS Windows appearance as required.

  • Microsoft .NET Core Runtime 6.0 and Microsoft ASP.NET Core Shared Framework 6.0 must be installed on the backup server.

Nutanix AHV backup appliance

The Nutanix AHV backup appliance must be provided with sufficient compute resources to handle backup and restore tasks in parallel. The maximum number of concurrent tasks is configured in Nutanix AHV backup appliance settings. If this number is exceeded, the backup appliance will not start a new task until one of the current tasks finishes.

The default Nutanix AHV backup appliance configuration has the maximum number of concurrent tasks set to 4 and includes the following compute resources:

  • CPU: 4 vCPU
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Disk Space: 100 GB for product installation, internal database files and logs

While deploying a new Nutanix AHV backup appliance or editing settings of an existing one, you can increase the maximum number of concurrent tasks. It is recommended that you allocate 1 vCPU and 1 GB RAM for each additional task. However, you may need to allocate more resources if CPU and RAM utilization breaches configured thresholds. When configuring the maximum number of concurrent tasks, you must also take into account the network traffic throughput in your virtual infrastructure and resources allocated to Nutanix Controller VMs.

Important

The Nutanix AHV backup appliance is deployed as a backup infrastructure component preconfigured for optimal performance. That is why you must not install any software on the VM running as the Nutanix AHV backup appliance or make any configuration changes to it unless you are requested by Veeam Customer Support.
