Application-Aware Processing

Veeam Backup for AWS allows you to create transactionally consistent backups of Windows EC2 instances. The transactionally consistent backup guarantees proper recovery of applications on EC2 instances without data loss.

To create transactionally consistent backups, Veeam Backup for AWS uses the AWS Systems Manager (SSM) service.

To enable application-aware processing, in backup policy settings, set the Enable application aware snapshots toggle to On.

Limitations and Requirements for Application-Aware Processing

If you plan to create transactionally consistent backups, mind the following:

Application-aware processing is available only for EC2 instances running Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 or later.
The backup server must have outbound internet access to the SSM service.
The IAM role used for EC2 instance backup must have permissions to communicate with the SSM service.
