Performing Configuration Backup and Restore

You can back up and restore the configuration database that stores data collected from a Veeam Backup for AWS appliance configuration for the existing backup policies, protected EC2 instances, RDS resources, EFS file systems and VPC configurations, created worker instance configurations and profiles, added IAM roles and users, logged session records and so on. If the Veeam Backup for AWS appliance goes down for some reason, you can reinstall it and quickly restore its configuration from a configuration backup. You can also use a configuration backup to migrate the configuration of one Veeam Backup for AWS appliance to another appliance in AWS.

It is recommended that you regularly perform configuration backup for every Veeam Backup for AWS appliance added to the backup infrastructure. Periodic configuration backup reduce the risk of data loss and minimize the administrative overhead costs in case any problem with the Veeam Backup for AWS appliance occur.

Note

Veeam Backup for AWS appliances allow you to back up and restore their configurations directly from the Web UI. However, when you add an appliance to the backup infrastructure, this functionality is disabled and you become able to back up and restore the appliance configuration from the Veeam Backup & Replication console only.
