Performing Configuration Backup and Restore

You can create a configuration backup of the configuration database or restore it using Google Cloud Plug-in for Veeam Backup & Replication. The configuration backup contains the following information on the Veeam Backup for Google Cloud appliance configuration: existing backup policies, protected VM instances and Cloud SQL instances, deployed worker instances, connected Google Cloud projects, logged session records and so on.

The configuration backup is necessary if the Veeam Backup for Google Cloud appliance goes down for some reason. In this case, you can reinstall the appliance and quickly restore its configuration from a configuration backup. You can also use a configuration backup to migrate the configuration of one Veeam Backup for Google Cloud appliance to another appliance in the Google Cloud infrastructure. Veeam Backup & Replication exports data from the configuration database and saves it to a backup file in the backup repository.

It is recommended that you regularly perform configuration backup for every Veeam Backup for Google Cloud appliance added to the Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure. Periodic configuration backups reduce the risk of data loss and minimize the administrative overhead costs in case any problems with the Veeam Backup for Google Cloud appliances occur.

Note

A Veeam Backup for Google Cloud appliance allows you to back up and restore the configuration directly from its Web UI. However, this functionality is disabled if the appliance is added to the Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure. In this case, you can back up and restore the configuration from the Veeam Backup & Replication UI only.
