Backup Data Collection

In this article

To collect data from Veeam backup servers, the Veeam Backup Add-on uses the following instrumentation:

    Agent Procedure

The Veeam Backup Add-on includes a specialized agent procedure Collect and Process Backup Server Stats. The procedure is used to gather:

The agent procedure runs a PowerShell script that gathers configuration data via WMI on the backup servers. The data is sent to the Kaseya server and stored on the Kaseya database. The Veeam Backup Add-on uses the collected configuration data for the summary dashboard, views and reports.

When the agent procedure runs for the first time, it imports backup configuration data for the previous week. After that, each new run of the procedure gathers configuration data updates.

You can manually run the agent procedure against Veeam backup servers, or schedule the procedure to run in the automatic mode. For details on scheduling the agent procedure, see Scheduling Backup Data Collection.

    Event Sets

The Veeam Backup Add-on leverages Kaseya event log monitoring mechanism. The add-on includes two event sets for capturing error, warning and information events from Veeam backup servers:

Kaseya agents on backup servers monitor Veeam Backup & Replication events written to the Veeam Backup event log. The agents evaluate Veeam backup events against the Veeam Backup & Replication event set conditions and send alerts to the Kaseya server whenever these conditions are met. When the Kaseya server receives an alert, it can create an alarm in the Active Alarms view, register a ticket, run a script or send an email.

For details on setting up alerts, see Configuring Event Log Alerts.

For the list of Veeam Backup & Replication events that can be captured with these event sets, see Appendix A. Veeam Backup Events.
