This report evaluates workloads in your on-premise virtual infrastructure and estimates the resources needed to run these workloads in the VMware Cloud.
Description
The Capacity Planning for VMware Cloud report can be run either for the VMware vSphere or for the Microsoft Hyper-V infrastructure.
The report analyzes VM configuration and historical performance (CPU, storage and memory resources consumed by VMs and VM templates running on vSphere/Hyper-V hosts) and provides estimation of the VMware Cloud hosting options required to support your workloads in the cloud.
Calculation of the necessary cloud hosting services is based on the VMware Cloud specifications.
Parameters
Date/time Selection: defines a time period for which configuration and performance data will be analyzed in the report.
Scope: defines a list of Groups or Objects that will be analyzed in the report (by default, the VMware Virtual Machine Group and Veeam Hyper-V Virtual Machines Group are selected).
Sample Usage
Calculate the VMware Cloud hosting options required to support virtual machines running on the selected vSphere host. Use performance statistics for the previous quarter as a ground for the report analysis.

In this example we will run the report for the VMware infrastructure. However, you can run a similar report for the Hyper-V infrastructure. |
Instructions
- Open the Capacity Planning for VMware Cloud report.
- From the From list, select Previous Quarter > First Day. From the To list, select Previous Quarter > Last Day.
- In the Scope section, select the default groups and click Remove. Then search for virtual machines that run on the required vSphere host. Click Add Group. In the Group Name search box, type the name of the host and click Search. In the list of search results, select the object that belongs to the VM Container class, click Add and click OK.
- Click Run to view the report.
Report Output
The Summary table will describe your on-premise infrastructure: total number of virtual machines and VM templates, total allocated vCPU cores, total vCPU usage, total memory usage and total used storage resources.
The Required infrastructure output for VMware Cloud table will provide information on the number of Amazon Web Services Hosts required to support your workloads that run on the chosen vSphere host.
To help you make a decision, the report also includes pie charts that provide information on the Amazon Web Services resources (CPU, memory and storage) consumption after you store your VMs to the cloud.
