Backup Infrastructure Components
After you integrate Veeam Backup for Google Cloud with Veeam Backup & Replication, the backup infrastructure will consist of the following components:
- Veeam Backup & Replication
An application where you can manage backup infrastructure components, perform restore from image-level backups and snapshots, and copy backups to additional repositories and tapes.
- Google Cloud Plug-in for Veeam Backup & Replication
An installer component that deploys services required for integration with Veeam Backup for Google Cloud.
- Veeam Backup for Google Cloud appliance
The main component that performs backup and restore operations in Google Cloud environments.
In the Veeam Backup & Replication console, you can connect to an existing Veeam Backup for Google Cloud appliance or launch the deployment of a new one.
- Worker instances
Temporary Linux-based VM instances that are created by Veeam Backup for Google Cloud to perform backup and restore operations. A worker instance is deployed for each VM instance included in the running backup policy or restore process. After the backup or restore process completes, the worker instance is immediately removed. For more information, see the Worker Instances section in the Veeam Backup for Google Cloud User Guide
- Cloud Storage backup repositories
Google Cloud Plug-in for Veeam Backup & Replication supports two types of Cloud Storage backup repositories:
- Standard backup repositories
A Google Cloud storage bucket where Veeam Backup for Google Cloud stores image-level backups of VM instances, Cloud SQL instances or other resources. For more information on standard backup repositories, see Adding Cloud Storage Backup Repositories.
- Archive repositories
A Google Cloud storage bucket where Veeam Backup for Google Cloud stores archive backups of VM instances, Cloud SQL instances or other resources. For more information on archive, see Adding Cloud Storage Backup Repositories.
- Additional repositories and tape devices
Additional repositories are any backup repositories where Veeam Backup & Replication keeps copies of VM instance backups if you perform backup copy. For more information, see the Backup repositories section in the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide. You can also use tape devices to store copies of your backup files. For more information on how to back up to tapes, see the Machines Backup to Tape section in the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide.
