Adding S3 Repositories

In this article

AWS Plug-in for Veeam Backup & Replication uses S3 repositories as target locations to keep image-level backups of EC2 instances and additional copies of Amazon VPC configuration backups. In the Veeam Backup & Replication console, you can deploy new S3 repositories or connect to existing S3 repositories.

Depending on your configuration, you will need to follow the instructions from one of the following sections.

    Connecting to Existing S3 Repositories

All S3 repositories that have been already configured on a Veeam Backup for AWS appliance are added automatically to the Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure when you connect to this appliance.

If an S3 repository that is already added to the Veeam Backup for AWS infrastructure is not available in the Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure, follow the instructions provided in the Editing Veeam Backup for AWS Appliance Settings section. At the Repositories step of the Edit Veeam Backup for AWS Appliance wizard, specify credentials to be used to access the repository and click Apply, and the repository will be added to the Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure.

    Note

If you do not want or you not have an option to add to the Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure the Veeam Backup for AWS appliance where an S3 repository is deployed (for example, your product license is not supported), follow the instructions provided in the Adding External Amazon S3 Storage section in the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide. Note that in this case, restore from backups stored in this repository will work as described in the How Restore to Amazon EC2 Works section in the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide.

    Deploying New S3 Repositories

If you want to deploy a new S3 repository, follow instructions from this section. Note that when you deploy S3 repositories in the Veeam Backup & Replication console, they are added to the Veeam Backup for AWS infrastructure and are also displayed in the Veeam Backup for AWS infrastructure.

To deploy a new S3 repository, do the following:

    1. Launch the Add External Repository wizard
    2. Specify a Veeam Backup for AWS appliance
    3. Specify Amazon account settings
    4. Specify an Amazon bucket
    5. Wait for the repository to be added to the infrastructure
    6. Finish working with the wizard
