Removing Appliances

If you do not plan to manage a Veeam Backup for Google Cloud appliance from the Veeam Backup & Replication console, you can remove it from the Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure. If you do not plan to use the appliance anymore, you can also remove it from Google Cloud using the Veeam Backup & Replication console. When you remove the appliance, Veeam Backup for Google Cloud removes all resources associated with this appliance in Google Cloud.

Note

After you remove the Veeam Backup for Google Cloud appliance, the changes will take place on the Veeam Backup & Replication side and it will result in the following limitations:

  • You will not be able to create and manage any backup policies belonging to the appliance.
  • You will not be able to restore VM and Cloud SQL instances from snapshots.
  • You will have to rescan Cloud Storage backup repositories every time you want to collect information on newly created restore points, or to update data on restore points that were removed manually or by retention.
  • Restore to Google Cloud from image-level backups will start working as described in the How Restore to Google Compute Engine Works section in the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide. Also, the restore may take more time to complete.
  • Data transfer costs may increase because Veeam Backup & Replication will not be able to use native Google Cloud capabilities and will have to process more data.

Removing Appliance

To remove an appliance, do the following:

  1. Open the Backup Infrastructure view.
  2. In the inventory pane, select Managed Servers.
  3. In the working area, select the appliance that you want to remove, and click Remove Appliance on the ribbon. Alternatively, right-click the appliance and select Remove.
  4. In the Veeam Backup & Replication window, do the one of following:
  • If you want to remove an appliance from the Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure but leave it in Google Cloud, do NOT select the Delete cloud resources associated with the backup appliance? check box. Click Yes.
  • If you want to remove an appliance from both the Veeam Backup & Replication and Google Cloud infrastructure, select the Delete cloud resources associated with the backup appliance? check box. Click Yes.

Note that this option is not available for the Veeam Backup for Google Cloud appliances version 2.x.
