The number of active VMs in the Veeam Cloud Connect service provider license can reduce for one of the following reasons:
- The SP removes a tenant account. As a result, all tenant’s VMs become inactive and the equal number of VMs is revoked for other tenants. To learn more, see Deleting Tenant Accounts.
- The SP resets the VM count for the tenant. As a result, the corresponding number of VMs becomes inactive and the equal number of VMs is revoked for this tenant or other tenants. To learn more, see Resetting Tenant VM Count.
- A tenant removes backups and replicas created for one or several VMs on the cloud repository and cloud host. As a result, the corresponding number of VMs becomes inactive and the equal number of VMs is revoked for this tenant or other tenants. However, when a tenant runs a job that processes a VM for which backup and replica were deleted, such VM becomes active, and the number of active VMs in the SP license increases.

Currently, Veeam Backup & Replication does not automatically update the number of active VMs in the license after a tenant removes backups and/or replicas created for their VMs. To update the number of active VMs manually, the SP should reset the VM count for the tenant. To learn more, see Resetting Tenant VM Count. |
To reduce the number of managed VMs in a Hosting license installed on a tenant backup server, the SP can revoke the license from some VMs. The revoke procedure does not differ from the one for a regular per-VM license. To learn more, see the Viewing Licensed Hosts and Revoking License section in the in Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide at: https://www.veeam.com/documentation-guides-datasheets.html.

The SP should not revoke the license from VMs if the total number of managed VMs exceeds the total number of VMs in the hosting license and the grace period has expired. Revoking license in this situation will not allow the SP to process new VMs, and, in addition, Veeam Backup & Replication will stop processing VMs from which the SP has revoked the license. To continue processing VMs that exceed the licensed number, the SP must obtain and install a new license for a greater number of VMs. |
