Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 System Requirements

Virtual Hardware

EC2 instance type: m6i.2xlarge is recommended. Depending on the size of your backup infrastructure, usage scenarios and regions where Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 in AWS is deployed, you may require other instance types. For more information, see the System Requirements section of the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 User Guide and the Amazon EC2 Instance Types page in Amazon EC2 Documentation.

Disk Space: an EC2 instance with Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 is deployed with a 64 GB gp3 volume. 1 GB is required for product installation.

After initial deployment of Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365, additional disk space may be required for configuration and local cache databases (depending on the number of organizations, jobs, and sessions) and product logs. In this case, we recommend that you add an extra gp3 volume to the EC2 instance were the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 server is installed and create an additional backup repository on it. Consider that the selected volume type and size affect the performance of the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 system and costs of using it.

OS

An EC2 instance with Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 runs the Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Datacenter OS.

Software

All the required software is included in the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 setup. That includes:

• Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later.
• Windows C Runtime and Update (UCRT) in Windows. For more information, see this Microsoft article.
• To use PowerShell cmdlets for backup and restore, Windows PowerShell 5.1 or later is required.

Other

For operation of the Backup Proxy Server component, the following settings are required:

• The Remote Registry service must run on the target machine. The service startup type must be set to Automatic.
• Backup proxy server ports must be opened in Windows Firewall.
