License Types and Product Editions

Veeam offers the following types of licenses and editions for Veeam Availability Console.

Paid Licenses

There are two types of paid licenses available for Veeam Availability Console:

• Rental license is a full license intended for service providers. The expiration date of the Rental license is set to the contract end date, which is the last day of the month and normally 1 month from the contract start date.
• Subscription license is a full license intended for enterprises. The expiration date of the Subscription license is set to the end of the subscription term. The Subscription license term is normally 1-5 years from the license issue date.

Free Licenses

There are two types of free licenses available for Veeam Availability Console:

• Trial license is a full license that can be used for product evaluation. The trial license is valid for 30 days from the moment of the product download.
• NFR license is a full license that can be used for product demonstration, training and education. This license is not for resell or commercial use.

Product Editions

Veeam Availability Console is available in two editions: Service Provider and Enterprise. Product editions target different consumers:

• The Service Provider edition is intended for managed service providers.

You must to be registered with the Veeam® Cloud & Service Provider (VCSP) program to work with Veeam Availability Console for Service Providers.

• The Enterprise edition is intended for enterprises.

Veeam Availability Console for the Enterprise requires that the customer has either a Microsoft Enterprise Agreement (EA) or VMware Enterprise License Agreement (ELA). To be eligible, customers are required to provide a valid Microsoft EA number or VMware ELA number.

Both editions provide a similar set of features, and differ mostly in terms used to name objects, and in the way reporting is done for provided backup services and consumed backup resources. For example, in the Service Provider edition, providers use subscription plans and invoices to bill client companies for provided services. Whereas in the Enterprise edition, IT administrators use chargeback templates and chargeback reports to calculate the amount of backup resources consumed by enterprise departments.

Each product edition requires its own type of license. To work with the Service Provider edition, you must install a Rental license. To work with the Enterprise edition, you must install a Subscription license. You can switch between editions by installing different types of licenses for the same product instance.
