Creating Backup Policies

To back up Amazon EC2 instances from Veeam Backup & Replication, you must create backup policies. A backup policy is a collection of settings that define how the backup operation must be performed. A backup policy is a collection of settings that define the way backup operations are performed: what data to back up, where backups must be stored, when the backup process must start and so on.

To create backup policies, Veeam Backup & Replication uses the capabilities of AWS Plug-in for Veeam Backup & Replication that allow you to access Veeam Backup for AWS and add a backup policy directly to the Veeam Backup for AWS appliance.

To create a backup policy:

  1. Check prerequisites listed in the Before You Begin section in the Veeam Backup for AWS User Guide.
  2. Launch the Add Policy wizard using one of the following instructions:
  • On the Home tab, navigate to Backup Job > Amazon EC2.
  • Open the Home view. In the inventory pane, right-click the Jobs node and select Backup > Amazon EC2.
  • Open the Home view. In the inventory pane, right-click the Backups node and select Backup > Amazon EC2.

If you have several Veeam Backup for AWS appliances added to the Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure, select the necessary appliance under the Amazon EC2 node.

  1. Follow the instructions provided in the Creating Backup Policies section in the Veeam Backup for AWS User Guide.
