Backup Infrastructure Components
After you integrate Veeam Backup for AWS with Veeam Backup & Replication, the backup infrastructure will consist of the following components:
- Veeam Backup & Replication
An application where you can manage backup infrastructure components, perform restore from EC2 instance backups and snapshots, and copy EC2 backups to secondary repositories and tapes.
- AWS Plug-in for Veeam Backup & Replication
An installer component that deploys services required for integration with Veeam Backup for AWS.
- Veeam Backup for AWS appliance
The main component that performs backup and restore operations in the Amazon EC2 environment.
In the Veeam Backup & Replication console, you can connect to an existing Veeam Backup for AWS appliance or launch the deployment of a new one.
- Worker instances
Temporary Linux-based Amazon EC2 instances that are created by Veeam Backup for AWS to perform backup and restore operations. A worker instance is deployed for each EC2 instance included in the running backup policy or restore process. After the backup or restore process completes, the worker instance is immediately removed.
- Amazon S3 repositories
S3 repositories where Veeam Backup for AWS stores backups of EC2 instances.
- Secondary repositories and tape devices
Backup repositories where Veeam Backup & Replication copies the EC2 backups if you perform backup copy. You can also use tape devices to store copies of your backup files.
