Restoring Guest OS Files

You can restore individual guest OS files and folders from image-level backups of a EC2 instance. When restoring guest OS files, you do not need to extract image-level backups of EC2 instances to a staging location, or start EC2 instances prior to a restore. You can restore files and folders directly from image-level backups. For more information on Guest OS File Recovery, see the Guest OS File Recovery section in the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide.

You can restore files from different guest OS file systems using the following methods.

Restoring from FAT, NTFS or ReFS

To restore guest OS files from FAT, NTFS or ReFS file systems, do the following:

  1. Launch the File Level Restore wizard. To do this, open the Home view. In the inventory pane, navigate to Backups > External Repository. In the working area, expand the necessary backup, and right-click the EC2 instance whose files you want to restore and select Restore guest files > Microsoft Windows.
  1. Complete the wizard as described in the Restore from FAT, NTFS or ReFS section in the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide.

Note

The Virtual machine step is not available when restoring guest OS files from backups of EC2 instances.

Restoring from Linux, Unix and Other File Systems

To restore guest OS files from Linux, Unix and other file systems, launch the File Level Restore wizard:

  1. Launch the Guest File Restore wizard. To do this, open the Home view. In the inventory pane, navigate to Backups > External Repository. In the working area, expand the necessary backup, and right-click the EC2 instance whose files you want to restore and select Restore guest files > Linux and other.
  1. Complete the wizard as described in the Restore from Linux, Unix and Other File Systems section in the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide.

Note

The Virtual machine step is not available when restoring guest OS files from backups of EC2 instances.

Restoring from Other File Systems

You can restore file systems other than those listed in the File-Level Restore section in the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide. For this purpose, use the Instant VM Recovery technology.

To learn how to restore guest OS files from other file systems, see the Restore from Other File Systems section from the User Guide for Microsoft Hyper-V.
