IBM FlashSystem

The following requirements and limitations apply to VMware and Veeam Agent integrations:

  • [For IBM Spectrum Virtualize 8.4.2 and later with iSCSI connectivity] During Backup from Storage Snapshots and storage rescan, storage snapshot export to a proxy is required. If the default proxy is used, Veeam Backup & Replication creates a service host with the "VeeamAUX" prefix in the default portset of the storage system. If you want to send traffic using a custom portset, you can manually specify the required portset in the service host settings. If another proxy is used, check that the host that performs the proxy role has the required portset in the host settings.
  • [For IBM Spectrum Virtualize 8.5.0 and earlier] Before you add the storage system to the backup infrastructure, make sure that a license for the IBM Spectrum Virtualize storage system supports IBM FlashCopy.
  • [For Veeam Backup & Replication version 12.1 (build 12.1.0.2131) and later] For IBM Spectrum Virtualize 8.5.1 and later, Veeam Backup & Replication uses storage volume snapshot technology automatically that does not require license support for IBM FlashCopy. Within the FlashSystem 5000 family, only FlashSystem 5045 model supports the new storage volume snapshot technology.

Once a storage volume snapshot is created (with or without Veeam Backup & Replication), FlashCopies are stopped being created. However, you can still restore from previously created FlashCopies. You can continue working with FlashCopy by setting a registry value. For more information, contact Veeam Customer Support. Note that before you set a registry value, you need to remove all storage volume snapshots.

  • [For Veeam Backup & Replication versions prior to 12.1 (build 12.1.0.2131)] For IBM Spectrum Virtualize 8.5.1 and later, make sure that volumes with FlashCopies do not contain storage volume snapshots. Otherwise, creation of FlashCopies fails.
  • [For Veeam Backup & Replication version 12.1 (build 12.1.0.2131) and later] For IBM Spectrum Virtualize 8.5.1 and later, after new snapshots appear on a volume, Safeguarded backups are not created.
  • [For Veeam Backup & Replication versions prior to 12.1 (build 12.1.0.2131)] When you add IBM Spectrum Virtualize storage systems with HyperSwap function to the backup infrastructure, Veeam Backup & Replication, by default, works with primary storage volumes.
