To retrieve virtual infrastructure data and build the business view model, you must periodically collect data from connected virtual infrastructure servers.
When you connect a virtual infrastructure server to Veeam ONE, Veeam ONE retrieves details about virtual infrastructure objects. For vCenter Server, Veeam ONE additionally retrieves a list of tag categories and tags. Tags can be used as a means for initial categorization — if necessary, you can map existing tag categories to business categories, and map tags to business groups. During subsequent data collection sessions, Veeam ONE retrieves data about new virtual infrastructure objects, new tags, and updates information in the Veeam ONE database. If you enable updates of tags, Veeam ONE Business View also writes categorization values to corresponding tags on the vCenter Server side.
You can run data collection manually or schedule it at specific time of the day, or with some periodicity. Note that you cannot run or schedule data collection in Veeam ONE Business View. You can do it in Veeam ONE Reporter. For details, see Scheduling Data Collection.
