Monitoring VMware Servers, Jobs, and Groups

Below are the monitoring concepts and objects used in the Veeam UI.

Monitored VMware Servers

The VE Service uses remote agentless connection to VMware systems, usually vCenter Server (although connection direct to a standalone vSphere host is also supported). These connections are known as Monitored VMware Servers.

Monitoring Jobs

The VE Service logically breaks each VMware connection into Monitoring Jobs (by default, each vSphere cluster, as well as standalone host, is one job), and optimally distributes those jobs to available Veeam Collectors using a load-balancing algorithm.

Monitoring Groups

Veeam Collectors can be logically grouped in the Veeam UI into Monitoring Groups. Monitoring job failover and load-balancing will be contained within the group. Groups may also have custom collection settings (such as data collection interval).
