Configuring Users and Roles

Veeam App for ServiceNow supports the following roles:

Role

Description

Location User (location_user)

Can perform the following operations within a specific location:

  • Create data sources from templates
  • Create backup jobs from templates
  • Create backup job requests through the ServiceNow Service Catalog
  • Start and stop backup jobs
  • Run restore sessions

The Location User role is assigned by the ServiceNow Administrator. Location scope is determined by the App Administrator or Location Administrator and includes access to specific app resources and collected data.

Location Administrator (location_admin)

Can perform the following operations within a specific location:

  • Give existing ServiceNow users and user groups access to app resources
  • Edit templates
  • Create data sources from templates
  • Delete data sources
  • Create backup jobs from templates
  • Create backup job requests through the ServiceNow Service Catalog
  • Edit backup jobs
  • Start and stop backup jobs
  • Delete backup jobs from the app
  • Run restore sessions
  • View the My Events dashboard

The Location Administrator role is assigned by the ServiceNow Administrator. Location scope is determined by the App Administrator and includes access to specific app resources and collected data.

App Administrator (global_admin)

Can perform the following administrative activities in Veeam App for ServiceNow:

  • Assign app roles to existing ServiceNow users and user groups
  • Give existing ServiceNow users and user groups access to app resources
  • Manage Veeam connections
  • Create and edit templates
  • Create data sources from templates
  • Delete data sources
  • Create backup jobs from template
  • Create backup job requests through the ServiceNow Service Catalog
  • Edit backup jobs
  • Start and stop backup jobs
  • Delete backup jobs
  • Run restore sessions
  • Manage events and incidents
  • View all app resources and collected data
  • View all dashboards

The App Administrator role is assigned by the ServiceNow administrator.

ServiceNow Administrator

Can perform App Administrator operations and the following administrative activities:

  • Assign app roles to new and existing ServiceNow users and user groups
  • Configure integration with Veeam servers through the built-in guided setup

Assigning Roles

To assign a role to a user or user group, perform the following steps:

  1. Log in to your ServiceNow instance as a ServiceNow Administrator.
  2. In the ServiceNow bar, click All > User Administration > Users or All > User Administration > Groups.
  3. Click the user name or user group.
  4. On the Roles tab, click Edit.
  5. Filter the role collection by the x_vesr_veeam_app key word to display Veeam App for ServiceNow roles.
  6. Select the role and click Add.
  7. Click Save.

Managing Access to Resources

You can grant granular permissions to user groups to the following app resources:

  • Backup jobs
  • Backup job templates
  • Schedule templates
  • Data sources
  • Data source templates
  • Data source credentials
  • Veeam connections
  • Backup repositories

The general procedure works as follows:

  1. Log in to your ServiceNow instance as the App Administrator or Location Administrator.
  2. Navigate to the required section.
  3. Click the resource name.
  4. In the User Groups field, specify a user group.
  5. Click Update.
