Managing Licenses

In this article

Veeam Availability for Nutanix AHV is licensed by the number of protected VMs. You must obtain a license for the total number of VMs that you plan to back up. Veeam Software offers the following types of paid licenses for Veeam Availability for Nutanix AHV.

To use Veeam Availability for Nutanix AHV, you must have a valid Veeam Backup & Replication license. The licenses are installed and managed on the Veeam Backup & Replication instance that is connected to the Veeam Availability for Nutanix AHV server. If there are no available license units* (instances or sockets), you cannot create new backups.

    * For terminology on Veeam licenses, see Veeam Licensing Policy.

    In this section:

    Licensed Objects

VMs protected by Veeam Availability for Nutanix AHV are licensed per protected instances. An AHV VM is considered protected if it has a restore point created in the last 31 days.

Veeam Availability for Nutanix AHV is licensed by the number of protected VMs. When you back up one AHV VM, Veeam Backup & Replication will consume one instance unit from the license.

If you have a Perpetual Socket license installed on the Veeam Backup & Replication server, protected AHV VMs will still consume instance units, not socket units. After you exceed the limit of 16 instances on the perpetual socket license, Veeam Availability for Nutanix AHV backup jobs will fail.

If you have a perpetual socket license and you want to use Veeam Availability for Nutanix AHV, install additional Perpetual Instance license or Subscription license. The new license will be merged with the existing perpetual socket license. To install the additional license, contact your Veeam sale representative.

    Managing Licenses Note:

    • VM templates are licensed as regular VMs.
