Licensing

To use Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV, you must have a valid Veeam Backup & Replication license. The licenses are installed and managed on the Veeam Backup & Replication instance connected to the AHV Backup Proxy server. If the license is not valid or out of resources, Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV backup jobs fail. Without a valid license, you can only create snapshots and restore VMs from snapshots.

This guide provides information only on peculiarities of Veeam licenses for Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV. For terminology and general information about Veeam licenses, see the Veeam Licensing Policy.

Licensed Objects

VMs protected by Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV are licensed per protected instance. An AHV VM is considered protected if it has a restore point created in the last 31 days.

If you are using any instance-based (Veeam Universal Licensing) license on your Veeam Backup & Replication, you don't need to install any additional licenses.

When you back up one AHV VM, Veeam Backup & Replication consumes one instance unit from the license. AHV VMs processed by backup copy and tape jobs are not regarded as protected VMs, these types of jobs provide an additional protection level for VMs that are already protected with backup jobs. VM templates are licensed as regular VMs.

Note

[For Perpetual per-socket licenses] If you are using a legacy perpetual per-socket license and you want to deploy AHV Backup Proxy, you must install an additional instance-based (Veeam Universal Licensing) license. The new license will be merged with the existing perpetual socket license. To obtain the additional instance-based license, contact your Veeam sales representative.

There is a misspelling right here:

I want to let the Veeam Documentation Team know about that.
