Storage vs. Storages

When it comes to computer technology, the word storage can be countable or uncountable but has no plural form. However, storage entities (such as datastores, vaults and so on) do have a plural form.

Storage vs. Storages Tip

The rule applies only to storage in the context of repositories that are used to store VM files (including log files, scripts, configuration files, virtual disks and so on). In the context of hardware- and software-based data storage and retrieval systems that not only act as repositories but also provide a hardware architecture running an operating system, use the term storage systems.

An example of a storage system is the NetApp storage system. For more information, see the NetApp ONTAP Documentation Center.
