Veeam State Summary Report

This report shows the time in healthy/unhealthy state for selected infrastructure objects’ monitor across a time range.


The Veeam State Summary Report extends the functionality of the Microsoft Generic Report library by adding the following advanced features:

  • Comparing two time intervals: the report allows you to compare health state of infrastructure objects within two time intervals.
  • Monitors selection: you can choose a specific monitor to analyze in the report.  


Data Aggregation: defines the aggregation period (Hourly or Daily).


If you use daily aggregation, keep in mind that with default data grooming and aggregation settings, the current date may not have a datapoint in the data warehouse. In this case, the object will be marked Unmonitored for the current day, which means the object will have downtime. For more accurate reporting results, you can exclude the current day from the reporting period.

Date/time Selection: defines the time period to analyze in the report.  

1st Interval Date/Time Selection: defines a time period for the report with relative or fixed dates.

Use Second Interval: defines whether the report should analyze data for two time intervals. If the second interval is enabled, the report will compare health states for specified time intervals.

2nd Interval Date/Time Selection: defines a time period for the second time interval with relative or fixed dates.


The second interval must be set in all cases, regardless of the Use Second Interval value. This is by Microsoft design; the behavior of report parameter controls cannot be changed.

Scope: defines a list of Groups or Objects that will be analyzed in the report. The Add Group option returns a Group and all objects that a group contains (with all performance counter instances). The Add Object option returns only the selected object.

Object Type: defines the type of the infrastructure objects whose health state the report will analyze. The list of available object types will depend on the selected scope.

Monitor: defines a monitor for which the report will display time in state for the selected scope. The list of available monitors will depend on the selected object type.

Unhealthy States: defines what states you consider unhealthy: Critical, Warning, Unmonitored, Monitor disabled, Monitoring unavailable, Unplanned maintenance or Planned maintenance (by default, only Critical, Unmonitored and Unplanned maintenance states are selected).

SLO (%): defines a service level objective. The SLO sets a time period (in percent against the reporting period) when selected infrastructure objects must be in a healthy state (that is, in the state that is not marked as unhealthy).

Sort By: defines how data will be sorted in the report (by Object Type, Monitor and Object Names, 1st/2nd Interval – Up/Down Time, 1st/2nd Interval – Up/Down Time (%)or Change).

Sort Direction: defines the sorting order for results in the report table (Ascending or Descending).

Sample Usage

Report on the health state of vSphere clusters in your virtual environment. Compare the health states for two intervals: from Monday to Friday this week and from Monday to Friday last week during this week.


  1. Open the Veeam State Summary Report.
  2. From the 1st Interval From list, select Previous Week > Monday. From the 1st Interval To list, select Previous Week > Friday.
  3. From the Use Second Interval list, select Yes.
  4. From the 2nd Interval From list, select This Week > Monday. From the 2nd Interval To list, select This Week > Friday.
  5. In the Scope section, search for VMware topology objects to include in the report.

Click Add Group. In the Group Name search box, enter vmware clusters and click Search. Select the VMware Clusters group in the list of search results, click Add and click OK.

  1. From the Object Type list, select VMware Cluster.
  2. In the Unhealthy States list, choose states that you consider unhealthy (for example, Critical, Warning and Unmonitored).
  3. In the SLO (%) field, type the required SLO (for example, 85).
  4. From the Sort By list, select Object Type, Monitor and Object Names.
  5. From the Sort Direction list, select Ascending.
  6. Click Run to view the report.

Report Output

The report will show uptime and downtime statistics for the list of clusters.

The green graph on the chart represents healthy states while the red graph represents unhealthy states. The SLO bar will be highlighted pink or gray, according to the following rule:

  • If the percentage of time when the cluster was in a healthy state is above the SLO (%), the bar will be colored gray.
  • If the percentage of time when the cluster was in a healthy state is below the SLO (%), the bar will be colored pink.
