Virtual Machines. Guest OS Summary

The report provides summary information on guest operating systems for VMs deployed in your environment.

Description

The report analyzes virtual infrastructure configuration to show all types of guest OSes installed on VMs, and the number of VMs that run OS of a specific type.

Parameters

Date/time Selection: defines the time period to analyze in the report.

Merge Editions: defines whether data in the report output will be broken down by OS edition. If you choose to merge editions, different editions of the same OS will be shown as one record in the report output.

Merge Bits: defines whether data in the report output will be broken down by OS bit count. If you choose to merge bits, 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the same OS will be shown as one record in the report output.

Count: defines the maximum number of guest OSes to display in the report output.

Scope: defines a list of Groups or Objects that will be analyzed in the report (by default, the VMware Clusters group is selected). The Add Group option returns a Group and all objects that a group contains. The Add Object option returns only the selected object.

Sample Usage

Report on 10 most commonly used VM guest OSes in your environment. Use statistics for the previous two months as a ground for the report analysis.

Instructions

  1. Open the Virtual Machines. Guest OS Summary report.
  2. From the From list, select Previous month > First day. From the To list, select Today.
  3. From the Merge Editions list, select No (Not merged).
  4. From the Merge Bits list, select No (Not merged).
  5. In the Count field, enter 10.
  6. Leave the Scope section without changes.
  7. Click Run to view the report.

Report Output

The report will show a top-10 list of guest operating systems installed on VMs in your environment. For each guest OS, the report will display a number of VMs which run the OS.
