To receive SNMP traps, you must enable SNMP service and configure its settings on a recipient computer. Otherwise, you will not be able to receive SNMP traps.
To configure SNMP service on a recipient machine:
- Install a standard Microsoft SNMP agent from the Windows distribution. For more information, see Microsoft TechNet Library.
- From the Start menu, select Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
- Double-click SNMP Service.
- In the SNMP Service Properties window, click the Traps tab.
- Add the public string to the Community name list.
- Click the Security tab.
- Make sure the Send authentication trap option is selected.
- Add the public string to the Accepted community names list.
- Select the Accept SNMP packets from any hosts option.
- Click Apply and then OK to accept changes.
