Licensing

In this article

To use Veeam Backup for RHV, you must have a valid Veeam License installed on the Veeam Backup & Replication server. If the license is not valid or there are no available license instances, backup jobs of Veeam Backup for RHV will fail.

This guide provides information only on spesifics of Veeam licensing for Veeam Backup for RHV. For terminology and general information about Veeam licensing, see the Veeam Licensing Policy article.

    Licensed Objects

VMs protected by Veeam Backup for RHV are licensed per protected VM. The RHV VM is considered protected if it has a restore point created in the last 31 days.

If you are using any instance-based (Veeam Universal Licensing) license on your Veeam Backup & Replication, you do not need to install any additional licenses.

When you back up one RHV VM, one license instance is consumed from the Veeam Backup & Replication license. RHV VMs processed by backup copy and tape jobs are not regarded as protected VMs, these types of jobs provide an additional protection level for VMs that are already protected with backup jobs. VM templates are licensed as regular VMs.

    Note

[For Perpetual per-socket licenses] If you use a legacy perpetual per-socket license and you want to deploy Veeam Backup for RHV, you must install an additional instance-based (Veeam Universal Licensing) license. The new license will be merged with the existing perpetual socket license. To obtain the additional instance-based license, contact your Veeam sales representative.
