Removing Backups and Snapshots

In this article

Cloud-native snapshots and image-level backups created with backup policies are removed automatically according to the retention policy settings. If necessary, you can remove backed-up data manually from Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure. In this case, Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure removes the whole snapshot and/or backup chain from Azure. Thus, on the next run of the backup policy, Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure will create a full backup for Microsoft Azure VMs whose backed-up data you removed.

    Note:

Do not delete separate backup files from Microsoft Azure storage accounts manually. If some files in the backup chain are missing, you will not be able to roll back to the necessary state.

To remove snapshots and backups created by a backup policy, do the following:

    1. In the inventory pane, in the Management section, click Protected Data.
    2. Select VMs.
    3. Click Remove and select:
    • Snapshots

Select this option if you want to remove only snapshots.

    • Backups

Select this option if you want to remove only backups.

    • Snapshots and Backups

Select this option if you want to remove both the backups and the snapshots.
