Configuring Test Scheduling

To schedule orchestration plan testing:

  1. Log in to the VAO UI as a VAO Administrator or Plan Author. For details, see Accessing VAO UI.
  2. Navigate to Lab Calendar and click Create Schedule.
  3. Complete the Create Test Schedule wizard.

At the Scope step, in the Available Scopes list, select a scope for which you want to create the schedule.

Configuring Test Scheduling

At the Schedule Info step, specify a name and description for the schedule.

Configuring Test Scheduling

At the DataLab step, select a DataLab that you want to use to verify orchestration plans.

Configuring Test Scheduling

At the Choose Lab Groups step, add the required lab groups to support the test environment:

  • Use the Add and Remove controls to manage previously configured lab groups.
  • Use the Up and Down arrows to change the group execution order.

Configuring Test Scheduling Note:

All default lab groups previously created by an Administrator will automatically become preselected in the Lab Groups to use list, and you will not be able to remove them or modify the order in which they will run. For more information, see Working with Default Lab Groups.

Configuring Test Scheduling

At the Start Time and Recurrence step, define scheduling settings for the lab:

  1. Click the Schedule icon next to the Start testing on the following day and time field, configure the necessary schedule, and click Apply.
  2. Choose the necessary option:

Run this test only once to test plans once on the specified day.

Run daily at the same time to start testing at a specific time every day.

Run weekly on the same day to start testing once a week on the specified day.

Configuring Test Scheduling

At the Choose Plans step, select orchestration plans to be tested in the DataLab. Use the Add and Remove controls to manage available plans.

If you select several plans, they all will be tested at the same time.

Configuring Test Scheduling

[This step applies only if you have included at least one restore plan in the Plans to test list at the Choose Plans step of the wizard]

At the Restore Options step, choose whether you want to verify both backups of plan VMs and the recovery location used to restore the VMs, or backups only.

  • If you select the Quick test option, VAO will check whether VMs included in the plan will be able to recover from their backup files.

In this case, plan VMs will be verified in the Instant VM Recovery environment.

  • If you select the Full test option, VAO will not only verify that VM backups are ready-to-use, but also check that the recovery location to which the VMs will be restored is available and has enough resources to support the recovery process.

In both cases, VAO will run all verification steps added to the plan to make sure that the plan will be able to complete successfully.

    Configuring Test Scheduling Tip:

For the test to run successfully, you must map isolated networks of the virtual lab to all source and target networks present in the network mapping table of the selected recovery location.

To do that, configure the Isolated Networks settings of the virtual lab in the Veeam Backup & Replication console, as described in the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide, section Recovery Verification.

    Configuring Test Scheduling

At the Power Options step, choose an action to perform after the testing process is over:

    • To power off plan VMs and the lab, select the Test then power off option.
    • To keep plan VMs and the lab running in case you are willing to perform further tests, select the Test and keep powered on for a specific period of time option.

Use the Power off plan VMs and the DataLab after field to book a time slot in the lab schedule and prevent other tests from being scheduled for the same period.

    Configuring Test Scheduling

At the Summary step, review configuration information and click Finish.

The created schedule will be displayed in the calendar.

    Configuring Test Scheduling Tip:

You can delete a configured schedule if you no longer need it. To do that, select the schedule in the calendar, and click Delete at the Details step of the Edit Test Schedule wizard.

    Configuring Test Scheduling

As soon as the test is over, the DataLab Test Report will be generated.

    Configuring Test Scheduling Important!

The selected lab will power off, all scheduled plans will fail to be tested, and the DataLab Test Report will not be generated if one of the following conditions is met:

    • The lab halts.
    • The lab enters either the HALTING, HALTED, POWERING OFF or EDITING state.
    • The lab occurs to be already running and to include lab groups that differ from those added when configuring the schedule.
I want to report a typo

There is a misspelling right here:

I want to let the Veeam Documentation Team know about that.
