Zone Backup

You can use Veeam Agent for Oracle Solaris to back up data pertaining to individual non-global zones configured in the Oracle Solaris OS. Veeam Agent offers two scenarios for zone backup.

Scenario 1: backup from the global zone

You can install Veeam Agent in the global zone and configure the backup job to include directories with files pertaining to a non-global zone whose data you want to back up.

This scenario has the following requirements:

  • The root account of the global zone must have access to the file systems of the non-global zone.
  • The global zone must own the storage device that contains the file system of the zone.

If the global zone does not meet either of these requirements, use Scenario 2.

Zone Backup Note

It is not required to stop the backed-up zone before the backup process starts. To ensure consistency of the backed-up data, you can use custom scripts, for example, to create a ZFS snapshot or UFS snapshot. To learn more about custom scripts, see Backup Job Scripts.

Scenario 2: backup from a non-global zone

You can install Veeam Agent in the non-global zone whose data you want to back up and specify which files and directories to back up in the same way as in case you back up data of the global zone.

Zone Backup Note

  • You must install the product license in each Veeam Agent installed in each non-global zone.
  • You cannot use backups created from within a non-global zone for bare metal recovery because such backups do not contain the required system metadata file.
