Restoring Files with Graphical User Interface

In this article

Veeam Agent for IBM AIX saves full backups to backup files in the VTD format. In a VTD file, portions of backed-up data are organized in datasets. To restore a file or directory from a full backup, you can select the necessary dataset in the backup, browse to the directory that contains one or more objects that you want to restore, and restore the necessary objects to their location in the file system of your machine.

To restore a file or directory from a full backup, you can use the gubax utility — a graphical user interface for ubax. Veeam Agent for IBM AIX offers the following scenarios for file-level restore with gubax:

    • Directly from a VTD file. This option may be useful if Veeam Agent for IBM AIX is set up to overwrite the VTD file within every full backup session. In this scenario, the VTD file from which you want to restore data contains one full backup related to a specific point in time.
    • Using the media library. This option may be useful if Veeam Agent for IBM AIX is set up to append the backed-up data to the VTD file within every full backup session. In this scenario, the VTD file from which you want to restore data contains multiple full backups created at different points in time. You can choose between the media library records to restore data to a specific point in time.

Veeam Agent for IBM AIX provides the graphical user interface for file-level restore from a full backup only. To restore a file or directory from an incremental backup, you can use the tar utility. To learn more, see Restoring Files from Incremental Backup.

    Overwriting Files During Restore

By default, Veeam Agent for IBM AIX does not overwrite existing files during file-level restore. If you want to restore a file that is currently present in the file system from a backup, for example, after you changed some file by mistake, you must instruct Veeam Agent to overwrite restored files. To do this, do the following:

    1. Start the gubax utility with the gubax command.
    2. In the gubax main menu, select Default settings.
    3. In the Default settings menu, select Other options.
    4. In the Other options form, select the Overwrite option and set its value to 1.
    5. Select OK.

Restoring Files with Graphical User Interface Note:

Currently, when you launch the gubax utility and open the Other options form for the first time, the utility displays 0 as the default value for all options except for the LocalFS option. As a result, if you change the value for the Overwrite option, other options that have 1 as the default value will change their values to 0 as well. To preserve the default values, you must also set to 1 values of the following options: UseACL, CaseSensitive, SetOwner, SetPermissions, SetTime.
