Automatic and Manual Recovery

In this article

Veeam Agent for IBM AIX offers two recovery modes for bare-metal restore:

    • Automatic recovery. In this mode, the recovery process runs through all recovery phases in consequence. The recovery options are limited to the following: recover the root volume group or recover the entire machine. Before you start the automatic recovery process, you must specify backup location settings and restore the machine configuration. You can also specify network settings and data recovery settings, and map restored drives, if necessary.
    • Manual recovery. In this mode, you can choose to run through selected recovery phases. You can also select individual volume groups that you want to recover.

Manual recovery may be useful if one or more recovery phases fail for some reason during automatic recovery. In this case, you can perform only those phases that have failed without the necessity to run the whole recovery process once again.

The recovery process may require longer time depending on the speed of disks and network interfaces on the target machine. Once recovery is complete, you can reboot your system to its original state (that is, state of the system at the time when the backup was created).

Before reboot, it is recommended that you create a copy of the log files generated during the recovery process. To learn more, see Copying Log Files.
