Step 3. Restore Machine Configuration

In this article

To restore your machine from the backup, you must apply configuration of the machine that you want to restore to the machine on which the Veeam Recovery Environment is currently running. In terms of Veeam Agent for IBM AIX, when you apply configuration of the original machine to the target machine, you restore configuration. To learn more, see Configuration Restore.

The following scenarios for configuration restore are available:

    • Scenario 1. The file that contains up-to-date information about the restored machine configuration is included in the backup. During backup, you saved the machine configuration to the default location (/VEEAMCFG/disrec.xml).

In this case, you can immediately restore the machine configuration from the backup. To learn more, see Restore Configuration from Backup.

Veeam Recovery Environment will detect the machine configuration file in the backup, restore it from the backup file, and save it to the /VEEAMCFG/disrec.xml path in the recovery environment file system.

    • Scenario 2. The file that contains up-to-date information about the restored machine configuration is included in the backup. During backup, you specified a custom location for the configuration file (a location that is different from the default location, that is, /VEEAMCFG/disrec.xml).

In this case, you must complete the following steps:

    1. Specify the custom path to the machine configuration file (that is, the same path that you specified for the configuration file during backup). To learn more, see Specify Location for Configuration File.
    2. Import the machine configuration to this file from the backup. To learn more, see Restore Configuration from Backup.

Veeam Recovery Environment will detect the machine configuration file in the backup, restore it from the backup file, and save it to the same custom path in the recovery environment file system.

    • Scenario 3. The file that contains up-to-date information about the restored machine configuration is not included in the backup. Instead, the file was saved to an NFS directory.

In this case, you must mount the NFS directory where the configuration file resides to the recovery environment file system, and then specify a path to the file in the mounted directory. To learn more, see Specify Location for Configuration File.

Veeam Recovery Environment will read the machine configuration from the specified file. You do not need to restore the machine configuration from the backup.
